My work at Specsavers
I've been enjoying exploring and learning new things during my time at Specsavers. From CRM to making maps to meeting room door posters, my skills have developed greatly since being here.
The Door Poster
The meeting room door poster was based on Marble Bay. I went down to take some reference photos early in the morning, takin advantage of the sunrise light. I started the illustration facing the sunrise, but ended up swapping the direction and unfortunately it didn't make sense to add the sun into this point of view. Through this project, I learnt a lot about Illustrator, a program which I hadn't used prior to this, as well as After Effects in making the above video showing the progress of the design.
My Personal work
Outside of work I prefer working with fibre, at any given time I'll have at least one embroidery, knit or crochet project on the go. I learnt to knit as a child from my Great Grandma Maggie, and picked up embroidery during lockdown. Crochet came later as a way to challenge myself as the learning curve can be quite steep, but allows for more freedom. I find it's a great way to flex creative muscles in a slow and mindful way, the best of both worlds!
Embroidery is probably the most mindful of the mediums I work with, each stitch takes concentration and thought, from placement to the number of threads used and the type of stitch itself. It's an incredibly involved process, and doesn't allow for much mind wondering. It is, however, where I find myself the most creative and experimental.
I took up knitting and eventually crochet properly about a year ago with dreams of creating a more sustainable wardrobe. The goal is to learn to sew as well but one step at a time!
I've learnt a lot about garment construction, specific material uses as well as accessory construction and finally feel like I'm at a stage to start implementing these things now the foundations are stronger.
Outside of work
Outside of work I am a bit of a recluse, I love alone time, opting to go for a walk with a podcast or reading a book most weekends. You can also find me in the gym after work burning off some steam.
Pets
This is Elizabeth, she's a menace and a diva, but I love her. The shelter gave her that name because she was born on the Queens birthday, and nothing else seems to suit her so it stuck!
